Single, or full colour, short run digital printing is undertaken using a high speed Konica Minolta C6110. Short run black and white work is printed on a Konica Minolta B 1250 and two Oce 2110 digital printers. For longer run work , plates are quickly and efficiently made on our Kodak Active process free plate setter. Proofs are produced using a Magnus 400 match print proofer. A number of sheet-fed and continuous presses are then available to produce high quality print. These include a Heidelberg Speedmaster 74 – 5 colour perfector press with computer interface colour management. Print quality is outstanding.
Our finishing and binding department has wide-ranging capabilities including Heidelberg Stahl high speed folding, Muller Martini Presto saddle stitching with three knife trimming and Practico stacking, a number of guillotines for cutting and trimmimg, perfect binding, scoring, perforating, numbering, book binding, collating, round cornering, gold foiling, rimming and drilling. We also have the capacity to enhance the appearance or to increase the durability of magazines, books, etc. by applying ultra violet (UV) varnishing or laminating. This can be in a gloss or matt finish.
A Horizon high speed perfect binding machine is utilized for our binding applications. A Horizon automated collating machine is used to collate the large volumes of numbered books that we print. The Company continues to upgrade its production capabilities on an ongoing basis with appropriate new technologies.
The above photograph illustrates our Komori H-UV four colour offset press, the first press of this kind in Africa. This press represents leading edge technology which will alleviate bottlenecks and maximize production output. The fundamental difference between this press and a standard four colour press is that the ink is instantly cured regardless of the material or ink coverage when it arrives at the delivery table. The technology that this press employs to cure the ink instantly is using highly reactive UV inks and a single low energy UV lamp.
Output from the press can then immediately be folded, trimmed, die cut, bound or undertake any other finishing process without having to wait for the ink to dry. This significantly reduces job turnaround time and improves productivity and more importantly customer service. The press offers greater colour stability, higher running speeds, lower running costs, reduced wastage and Co2 emissions. A further advantage is that the press also prints on non-absorbent substrates such as plastics, vinyl’s, foils and similar packaging materials, offering sales and designs houses unlimited creative opportunities.
